Keystone Uniforms

The Situation

Outfitting first responders and law enforcement professionals with the right uniform, gear, and equipment is a more complicated than you’d expect. Because it’s a job related task which requires travel and scheduling, departments often have to pay their officers a full day’s wage just to shop for their uniforms. Additionally, because the officer is spending most of their day at the store and not responding to calls, the department also has to provide coverage. This often results in having to pay an additional officer overtime wages to fill in. 

 Previously, officers had to do the following each year to get new uniforms:

  1. Schedule a uniform store visit, while on-duty, to get measured and place their uniform order.
  2. Then, once the uniforms arrive, the officer would have to schedule a second day to have the fittings and alterations done. Ordering name tags and patches would also take place during this fitting. Again, the department would have to absorb this cost and provide coverage.
  3. A third day would be scheduled for the uniform pick up and final fitting.

This process would cost a local police department almost $2500 for each officer annually.

The Solution

Built the first DTC website where verified law enforcement and first responders could purchase department specific uniforms and equipment. Once the officer entered his credentials, they could only purchase items that were specific to his/her department. This eliminated any error or confusion  in ordering uniforms.

This was a pivotal shift in the uniform space that saved local police departments both time and money. No longer did departments have to pay officers a full daily wage to shop for their uniforms, or have to pay other officers overtime wages to cover the on-duty officers that were assigned for ‘uniform shopping days’.

The system I created and put in place eliminated over 90% off this cost, saving time and money for local PDs. In a department like Los Angeles, which has over 8,000 sworn officers, the total savings can be estimated to over 20 million dollars annually.

Additionally, verified officers could now access a website from any device, login, and easily place uniform orders and schedule pick up appointments without leaving their duty station or home.

WHY WAS THIS SO IMPORTANT?

Aside from this new and convenient way to order uniforms, it added tremendous value to Keystone Uniforms’ overall position and capability in the marketplace. Because of its success, it forced the competition to pursue a multi-million dollar acquisition of Keystone Uniforms.
